More than 1 in 5 Australian children have experienced food insecurity in the last 12 months.
After reading that kids were going hungry at school in his hometown of Shepparton in 2013, Lyndon Galea pinched what he could from his Mum’s cupboards and started making sandwiches to drop to the schools mentioned in the article.
Today, Eat Up feeds hungry kids at over 650 schools across the country and has delivered over 2.5 million lunches and counting.
By providing nourishment to disadvantaged students at school, Eat Up aims to improve their engagement in the classroom so they can better take advantage of learning opportunities, succeed in education and ultimately, have a brighter future.
Through corporate and community fundraising and sandwich-making workshops, Eat Up prepares and delivers thousands of free sandwiches, fresh fruit and recess snacks to schools every week. This saves schools money and teachers time, and prevents kids from experiencing the impacts, hunger and embarrassment of missing lunch.
The Knight has donated $10,000 to support the nourishing and impactful work that Lyndon and the Eat Up team perform for disadvantaged Aussie kids.
Each year, staff at The Knight select a worthy recipient for our Australian Knight Award; someone who has demonstrated qualities that personify those of a Knight, including bravery, selflessness, and leadership.
The Knight donates $10,000 to the winner’s charity and celebrates them as our chosen ‘Australian Knight’.
At The Knight, we strive to do business in a way that gives back and creates a positive impact on the world around us.
Our Australian Knight Award is one of the ways we do this, by highlighting & celebrating the inspiring work those around us are doing for the betterment of others.
