Our beginnings.

After a successful accounting and finance management career with both private and public organisations, Robert Evans made a significant career change by starting up a property maintenance service.

Whilst providing property maintenance services throughout Melbourne, Robert identified an opportunity to offer a professional management service to Owners Corporations (Body Corporates) primarily associated with residential properties.

Combining his two passions, accounting and property maintenance, Robert established a business in 1990 known as Dycorp which was the forerunner of what is now a well-established and highly regarded Owners Corporation management company.

Operating out of the spare bedroom in his Caulfield South family home, Robert was appointed the Manager of his first apartment building located in Elwood.

Our history & growth.

In 1995, Robert’s involvement in the Owners Corporation industry took a quantum leap when he was appointed Manager of Hudson Conway’s high-end development, The Domain, located at 1 Albert Road, Melbourne.

With exponential growth in the business, an office relocation to 2-6 Glenferrie Road, Malvern took place in 1998. At this time Robert’s wife, Joyce, decided to call time as a Manager of an aged care facility to join the business.

After changes to the business name which included ‘Strata Body Corporate Services’, Robert engaged the services of a family friend to rebrand the company in 2002. With Joyce being Scottish, inspiration was drawn from Scotland’s yesteryear and the name ‘The Knight Alliance’ (commonly referred to as ‘The Knight’) evolved representing a trusted figure providing protection and guardianship, with a focus on mutual support.

In 2006 Robert and Joyce’s son, Gregor, joined the business undertaking part time administration work whilst studying at university. In 2008, Gregor joined the business in a fulltime capacity and commenced working as an Owners Corporation Manager.

Through word of mouth referrals, The Knight continued to grow organically with the appointment as Manager for various properties of differing size and use. In early 2018 in order to be closer to Clients two additional offices were opened in Docklands and Geelong.

The Knight today.

On the 1st August 2018, after several years of succession planning there was a changing of the guard with Robert moving into an Executive Director role and Gregor being appointed Managing Director. There was also a restructure of roles which saw the creation of team leader roles and Joyce passing the baton to Scott McCann as the Operations Manager.

In February 2019 after a rigorous selection process The Knight was honoured to be appointed the Manager of Mirvac’s The Eastbourne development located in East Melbourne which is being referred to as Melbourne’s most prestigious apartment building.

The Knight is now a company which employs over 50 staff members and provides a professional Owners Corporation Management service to over 400 properties of various size and use including residential, offices, retail, warehouses and recreational.

In 2021, The Knight achieved Climate Active certification as a carbon neutral organisation, becoming the first Owners Corporation Management company to do so.
