An Evening with The Knight 2019

On Wednesday 25th September we hosted our 3rd annual information evening, An Evening with The Knight. It was our largest event yet, with tickets selling out before the event and over 100 Committee Members and Owners coming down to the RACV City Club to spend an evening with us.

If you missed out on tickets this year, you can head over to our YouTube channel and watch all the highlight’s from the event.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to our sponsors who helped make the event bigger and better than previous years, and we can’t wait to continue to grow this event and improve our already industry-leading offering to our clients.

It has been a huge year in Strata so far.

Never has Strata so frequently made headlines. The media attention on the ‘cladding crisis’, the insurance market and defects and building quality has been extensive. Strata Owners continue to cry out for help with short stay accommodation, and on top of this, impending changes to the Owners Corporation act will impact the way Owners Corporations and Committees are run.

With so many developments in the industry, it’s no wonder Strata Owners are jumping at the opportunity to spend an evening learning about what it all means, and how it can affect their property.

We pride ourselves on providing insight and guidance to our clients, helping them to navigate the complex and ever-changing world of strata living. It’s a point of difference

This year’s topics.

We were so lucky to be joined by Michael Giansiracusa of the Whitbread Group, Mark Lipshutz of CLP Lawyers, Gavin Milner of Scott Partners Accountants and Daniel Beaton of the Australian Energy Foundation who are all experts in their fields and provided valued and concise insight on a range of topics.

Strata Insurance, what you need to know.

Michael Giansiracusa helped highlight how Owners can navigate through the changing landscape of insurance. In recent times, non-compliant building materials, property defects, changes in terrorism levy and hardening insurance markets have seen Strata Insurance premiums increase substantially, often with restrictive policy conditions and high excesses imposed.

Owners Corporation and Other Acts Amendment Bill

Mark Lipshutz stepped us through the upcoming changes to the legislation which governs Owners Corporations – both good and potentially less so – and the impacts these could have on an Owner’s legal rights, obligations and duties as a member of an Owners Corporation.

Understanding your financial obligations

A topic which many find challenging is the accounting and financial side of Owners Corporations. Gavin Milner explained the obligations upon members of an OC, including income tax obligations.

Sustainable Strata

Daniel Beaton shared his expertise in the realm of improving the environmental footprint of a strata residence, highlighting not only the importance of this – with common areas accounting for up to 60% of your building’s energy consumption – but also the cost saving which Owners could benefit from.

Thank you to our sponsors.
